Most health care professionals tell you there's nothing you can do to help your child except go to AL anon. AL anon says you have to detach with love (What the heck does that even mean?) But, you can't just step back and watch your child ruin their life and yours. Trying to talk to family and friends about it, will only leave you feeling 10x's more frustrated. I was still reeling from finding out my younger son had an addiction, then I discovered that my older son was also battling addiction. It was like being thrown into the deep end of the pool and not knowing how to swim. I knew nothing about the world of addiction recovery. My husband and I weren't on the same page, and we had to make one difficult decision after another. There were times I thought we'd never get out of the pit.
It felt like life would never be the same again. (to be honest, it never was the same). But, with some guidance and willingness, we were eventually able to get our family back on track, and now we're better than ever! I hate to be sappy, but this experience truly did make us all stronger and better human beings. However, it was a tough road with lots of ups and downs.
